Where Paintings Become Your Passport
escape with fine art created by
I am a San Diego-based artist who employs vibrant oil paint to capture the world around me. My intention is to create an experience where viewers can immerse themselves in the realm of my artwork. Inspired by everyday surroundings, I infuse daydreams into my subjects and utilize bold angular brushstrokes to enhance reality. Through strong lines, rich colors, and dynamic movement, I deliberately distort scenes to evoke a powerful sense of place. I work primarily with oil paint and often include India Ink and occasionally acrylic in my preliminary markings and underpaintings to create depth. My paintings are created on high-quality engineered wood panels, which provide a strong, smooth surface and enhance my sharp line work and expressive paint strokes. My style is most recognizable for my use of clean bright colors and angular markings, whether or not I am painting local beach life, landscapes, or still life. I warmly invite you to join me on a captivating journey through my vivid paintings, where you can explore, imagine, and actively engage in the narrative.
Step into a world of vibrant beauty with my collection of colorful oil paintings inspired by Kauai's captivating landscape. Each artwork aims to bring to life the lush flora, majestic trees, and colorful flowers that make the island so enchanting. Whether it's local scenes or breathtaking vistas, these paintings will transport you and make you feel like you're truly there. Immerse yourself in the essence of Kauai and experience its beauty from the comfort of your own home.
I employ bright and colorful palettes, and infuse each of my still lifes with a sense of joy. These oil paintings are sure to brighten any space they inhabit, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere. I love capturing the essence of everyday objects, arranging them in imaginative and visually captivating ways. With their lively colors and playful arrangements, these still life paintings invite viewers to appreciate the beauty and magic found in the simplest of things.
'En Plein Air' is the French expression for 'In the Open Air.' It refers to the practice of painting directly from life outdoors. This challenging method gained popularity with the French Impressionists when paint became available in tubes. It experienced a resurgence centuries later with various American painting groups.
Plein Air painting holds a significant place in my artistic practice. I use these outdoor sessions to create small studies, capturing the nuances of light and color in nature. Additionally, they serve as a valuable resource for larger studio pieces. Occasionally, I decide to complete final works on location, making them available for collectors.
